In 1742, Peter Faneuil built Faneuil Hall for Bostonians and stipulated that the first floor must forever serve as a marketplace. Now, 270 years later, after a major renovation to this historic landmark, the globally conscious, entrepreneurial teens from Boston’s non-profit Artists For Humanity (AFH), have launched Artists For Humanity-The Store to welcome shoppers from around the world.
AFH teen artists have envisioned, designed, and built out the retail space from 70% recycled/reused materials. Featured elements are a sales countertop made from reclaimed plastic shopping bags and remnants from the construction of Artists For Humanity’s headquarters, the EpiCenter. The Store’s product display areas are made from milk crates and discarded shipping pallets. A TV Monitor showcases AFH projects and teen stories and an interactive live Twitter feed connects shoppers to Boston’s talented teens. Please visit the blog to read more.
Partnering with Boston-based retailer COLOR, Inc., Artists For Humanity – The Store provides a retail outlet for the voice, vision, and virtuosity of AFH’s creative Boston teens. AFH designs add a fresh vibrancy to Faneuil Hall and an authentic space to buy out-of-the-ordinary gifts.
All products sold at The Store are created in AFH studios in the Fort Point EpiCenter: graphic T’s and sweats, stickers, buttons, tote bags, mugs, key chains, water bottles, paintings, photography, prints, tables and counter stools from reclaimed materials. Proceeds support AFH’s year-round mentoring and employment of 225 teens from Boston neighborhoods.

Historic Faneuil Hall that houses The Store opened with great fanfare on May 25, 2012, the start of Memorial Day weekend and the beginning of the summer tourism season. AFH teens were there for the official ribbon cutting by Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. Once the formal program ended, AFH teens posed with Mayor Menino and then joined the throngs of visitors to their store and the other eight Boston-based independently operated shops. The excitement of seeing The Store design and products that they had created was palpable.
Boston is known for "firsts"… and a store designed by teen artist that sells products with teen designs, is another "first" that gives AFH goose bump pride!
